I’m an American. I find politics to be dull. I don’t often vote in presidental elections and I limit my involvement in the political realm to state issues. I find this more appealing because I can see how my vote on state / city referendums affects me and the people around me directly. Voting for president is strange. I’m in effect voting for a man (woman) who I know is lying to me (by making campaign promises he/she will not keep) and hoping that they do those things (which I know they will not do). Basically the president in the US is an short-term elected king who hobnobs with foreign leaders and, recently, says insane things on twitter. This isn’t something I care about or want.
That said, some of my close friend find our current president (the orange one that never admits he’s wrong) to be almost infallible, although it’s quite obvious from the record that he is a liar (some times contradicting himself in the same press conference), weak willed, and incredibly fallible. Why are my (relatively) intelligent friends fooled? I have no idea. If you view him from a logically critical perspective nothing he says matches reality or makes sense. How should we (the normal people) deal with this? His strength seems to be repeating (factually incorrect) mantras until his crowd believes them without question.
Why do my friends feel so strongly about this? I have no idea. Politics is unimportant to me. It’s not do or die. It’s simply business as usual for the ruling class. Why this election is different is lost on me. I simply care about my friends and want to spend time with them. I have no interest in their political affiliations. I look forward to a change of leadership to one that is, well… sane, but after many decades of American politics that might be asking too much. I just don’t see how it’s the end of the world if the democrats win. They have won and without cheating (as far as I can tell). There’s no evidence the 2020 election was stolen. People who claim various voting infractions occurred look like fools without evidence. Show me (and the court) some evidence and I’ll believe you. I have no horse in this race. I just need evidence to be convinced. Speculation and your wishful thinking (for god knows what reason) won’t convince me.
I just want to go for a hike with you or get some coffee. I care deeply about you my friend. I have no idea why in your mind it’s Trump or the country is ruined. I just want to spend time with you like we used to. Before you changed. Before he changed you. The world is not your enemy. I’m not your enemy. Come back to me. Please. :(
